Overview
Members of the subgenus Oeda (Oedacanthus) may be recognized by the structure and attachment of the inflated pronotal process (see Diagnostic characters below). Sakakibara (2014a) provided a key to the species.

Diagnostic characters
Swollen pronotal process pedunculate, translucent, and without finely reticulate areas; its posterior apex thorn-shaped (modified from Cryan and Deitz 1999b).
