Distribution
Neotropical region: Brazil, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela (McKamey and Porter 2016a).

Diagnostic characters
The pronotum of Thuris has a strong posterior keel which is absent in members of the genus Paraphetea (McKamey 2020a). McKamey (2020a) provided a key to both genera and their species.
Immatures
Nymphs devoid of chalazae and scoli; abdominal tergum IX with ventral extension (McKamey and Porter 2016a).
