Distribution
Neotropical and Nearctic regions: throughout most of the tropical and temperate regions of the Americas, from Chile to Canada, including the West Indies.
Diagnostic characters
Pronotum with or without anterodorsal, dorsal, anterolateral, or lateral horns. Forewing venation simple or reticulate distally. Pro- and mesothoracic tibiae not foliaceous. Metathoracic coxa with acute triangular process; tibia clavate distally, usually without longitudinal rows of cucullate setae (exceptions: row I with cucullate setae in Potnia, Stirpis, some Alchisme, and some Umbonia; tarsus greatly reduced (shorter than pro- or mesothoracic tarsus).
